Brian visits his mother for a few days
Dad had a good time with his mom for a few days and he also got a much needed haircut. :) His mom Millie was in the newsletter for the month!! She turned 97 in October and is doing great!!

Let's build some trucks

We went to the church
senior group Thanksgiving luncheon in the multipurpose room at church. My sister was in charge of the event, so Ken
and I went in early so we could help set up tables, chairs and put on plates,
silverware and napkins. The food part
was catered.

Then after a wonderful lunch, we went to a church member’s house (Bob Johnson) to help work on some small cars for young kids. We worked for about 4 hours. These cars are less than a foot in length, but are made up of about 10 unique parts. These parts are hand made out of unique wood. Ken worked hard on cutting out the small complex pieces and I worked on gluing pieces together before going to the sanding station. Everyone worked hard and worked well together. Great group of people.

Take A Hike!
Ken knows I love to go hiking, so he suggested I go for a walk while he and Nancy did some errands. So I went outside and took off for a hike. It was a nice day and I walked with my coat unzipped. I had a good pace and did some running to mix it up. I had gone for about an hour + and then decided it was time to come back. I was heading back and got a little confused with the numbering system. I was looking for 95th and the numbers were climbing, so I stopped to talk to a lady. She was waiting for her children to come back from school. We had a nice talk. She had just recently moved out here because her husband worked for Boeing. She didn't know her way around yet, but her neighbor was due at the bus stop imminently, so we were waiting. By then, I had been walking for about 2 hours. Just then Ken and Nancy pulled up out front because they were headed home and saw me chatting. I was off just a little and that was because the East/West and North/South streets were at an angle to each other so I was off a little. Because as it turns out, 95th was not very far away at all. So all and all, I had a great walk. Did I say that I had a great walk too. See you on the trail.

Hawaii with my Hiking Group
During my healing process, I heard from my hiking group that we had hiked around several of the islands in Hawaii in January. Wow! All news to me!! So out of curiosity, I asked Mr Burch to send me a couple of pictures. So after he sent me some, I was looking for a place on my hard drive to save them to and guess what? You guessed it, I found a folder named "Hawaii". Surprise, surprise. And inside the folder were, not tens, but hundreds of pictures of our trip. There were several folders with pictures from all hikers. Wow! People who like to take pictures as much as I do. Wow! Just like my old phone, my computer is full of stuff. Important stuff, but full. Lol. So thank you to our hiking group for a great trip and thanks for the memories? I look forward to another wonderful trip in the future to build new memories.

31 Oct - Bob
Burch picks me up and takes me to Starbucks to meet up with our hiking group
for a planning session for next year’s hiking trip to Hawaii. Wow, we hiked in three of the Hawaiian Islands
this last January and I have absolutely no memory of the trip. He showed me some pictures of the trip before
he brought me home. It definitely was a
trip of a lifetime. Thanks guys for the
trip. And it was great seeing you all
today. And Bob thanks for getting me out

Oct- My sister driving took us to meet

is. We had a great time.

at 3:00, we headed South to take my mom out to celebrate her 97th

Oct – My friend Wanda takes me to the Tri-Cities to help get some more boxes
from their storage unit to bring back.
We took some stuff to her sister Wilma’s place and brought the rest
back. Yeah, the storage unit is empty.

Session with Jennifer
10 - 25 Had a 2:00 pm session with Jennifer today. She was in a great mood, even tho she had a headache last night. I could relate, because I had one of my good ones for the first 12 hours today. I think we laughed for the entire one hour session. Thank you Jennifer. And of course I needed to talk to her since some of my last posts were out of sequence. Honest, I did not have a single glass of 14 Hands wine. I am looking forward to this coming weekend because it is shaping up as being very quiet. I wish you all a wonderful weekend. Take good care. Busy Weekend of 19-22 Oct
10 - 22 Wanda wakes me up early, so we can go over to the Tri-Cities to meet their friend there to get more stuff. Wanda drives. I tried, but she wouldn’t go for it. Lol. We spend the nite at Wanda’s moms (Ruth's) house. Great fun! I don’t remember meeting her mom before? And I definitely did not know that Wanda and Ruth were such great musicians. They should go to Vegas! The next day we helped their friend load his truck and trailer and loaded Carl and Wanda’s van also. Anybody want to come to a garage sale? Haha.

lady friend from college has scheduled a clothes party at a friend’s
house. Some lady brings lots of clothes
to the house and the ladies get to see and try on lots and lots of
clothes. Wow! Just bring enthusiasm and
money. So while the ladies have fun, the
guys assemble at the Ficker household so the guys can have their form of
fun. So when the ladies return, a good time is had by all. Smile!

10- 19 Doug Wing picks me up at Wanda’s place in South Everett and takes me to the DOD retiree’s luncheon. Met a lot of new friends. Hehe. Had a great time. As I told my sister, I really did not remember faces, but names yes. Thank you Doug for your patience. I really appreciate your assistance and understanding. Give Glenna a hug for me.

sister drives me to GHC for my weekly visit with Jennifer. After my appointment is over, my son Brandon
picks me up. I am able to visit with my
three children for a while and then Brandon takes me out to friends Carl and
Wanda where I will be spending the week while my sister and Ken go back East to
visit the Jones’ clan.

Taylor Ann is Great!!!
10-14. Woke up late, then went to church with Nancy and Ken. Their pastor is amazing. He gave the sermon, is the lead singer, and plays a guitar. He even called me by name when we went up for Communion. I think their small church is what a church should be. Following church, we met up with Becca and Matt and Taylor at Starbucks. Surprise. While Becca and Matt went to see the Seahawks, we got the pleasure of watching Taylor for the afternoon. We then met Shelley and Brad for lunch at the Red Robin. We spent the rest of the day at home playing with Taylor. At one point Taylor drove Uncle Ken's car to the Doctor's and Red Robin and home again. Ken watched some of the Seahawks and what a finish. Great game to watch in person. Becca and Matt had already started to leave before the final score, so they did not see it, but they heard the cheering. Wow!!! What a fun day with Taylor. Does it get better than that!!! Thanks Taylor for coming to visit.

The Pain is only in My Mind.
10-11-12 If you have a week stomach, stop reading here. I am posting to ensure my daughter doesn't get after me. Lol. Following my appointment with Dr Ito, my Nurology Dr, my stomoach was still hurting quite a bit after doing so all day. Soo my sister, bless her heart, took me to Urgent Care to have a look. After spending almost 6 hours, did I say 6 hours, they had run me thru a Ct Skan, looking for signs of "Diverticulitis". The test results, after taking about 2 hours for someone to read, came back negative. So that was the good news. The bad news was, they never did tell me what might have been my issue with the stomach pain. And then my severe headache came back as well. So finally by Friday, stomach and head are doing much better. Thanks to all who continue with those prayers, they really are working. And thanks to my sister who continues to watch after me.

Thank you to my family
10-10-12. To Nancy, Ken, Brandon, Rebecca, Matt, Taylor and Heath. I had a Dr's appointment with Brian Ito. He even spells it correctly. Lol. Everything seemed to check out ok. Whew! He checked my blood pressure and my dexterity also. My sister and her husband took me. I wanted to use this blog to say again how fantastic they both have been during my journey thru this ordeal. It has not been easy for them either. They have shown intense patience and love throughout. I can never thank them enough. My children also support me tremendously while working, going thru training and raising children. Brandon, thank you for trying to get my finances under control. Lol. And on top of everything, my sister and Ken love to play games, so there is always something going on. Thank you and bless you all. All my love.

Happy 97th birthday mom
6/7 Oct 12 - Rode down with Nancy and Ken to Tumwater to celebrate mom's 97th birthday party. Saturday nite, Nancy and Ken stayed in another room on the 2nd floor. I stayed on the couch in a sleeping bag in mom's room. The next day, 15 of us celebrated an early birthday in the dining room downstairs. I was so thrilled to have all three of my children and my grandchild at the celebration. Gram Millie had a great time. Yeah! Happy birthday to you!!! After the party on 7 Oct, Shelley and Brad drove Ken and me back to Monroe because Nancy had a meeting on Monday in the area. Safe travels sister.

Nancy drove me to friend Carl/Wanda's new house in South Seattle. I spent some time
catching up on everything. And I spent the night. The next morning, Wanda drove
me back to Monroe. I will be spending a week with Wanda and Carl in the middle
of October.
Cousins are great!
10-4-12 On the way to Tumwater, we stopped for lunch at Black Angus in Federal Way and met up with our great cousins, Don Fristoe, Lynn and Bert Ross. Everbody looked much younger than I remember. Lol. It was great fun. Thank you all for joining us for Lunch.

FORE!
10-3-12 Golf at Snohomish Golf Course with friend Phil Smith. So Smith and Jones go at it again. In good fun of course. Phil organized two groups of three golfers. So Phil, Tom Evans and Jones were in one group. It was a fun day and I enjoyed the time outside. It was a very nice day for golf. But of course, when playing golf, every day is a good day. Fore! And then when I returned back to Nancy and Ken's house, there was a BBQ dinner in the works. Wow, what a great day!!!
